THE PROCESS
The concept for 'Chi-Town Pulse' came from
Douglas John's love of a community build around Blues dancing in Chicago. He then discovered the deep history and evolution of Blues in America. From the injustice of slavery came African Americans who proved to be resilient, and united communities through rhythm and soul. So it was important that Douglas John focused on the true meaning of Blues by creating characters with challenging and persevering backstories. 'Chi-Town Pulse" highlights the allure, the freedom of expression and the fusion power of Blues dancing.
This short film was made on a shoe string budget of only $2000, most of which was spent on music licensing and catering. The script was developed in a week, production was six days, and post was about two weeks. Distribution was through film festivals from Chicago to Mississippi. The cast were all first time actors, except one. 'Great job everybody!!' The crew were family and long time friends. There were approximately 238 wonderful people who volunteered their time to be a part of this production.
